What Happens in a Reiki Session?
When you arrive for your first Reiki session with me, we will talk a little bit about why you are interested in receiving Reiki. After a short discussion, you will then lie down fully clothed on a massage table.
The Reiki session will consist of various hand positions placed over your body. The hands do not move, they simply stay stationary over various positions over the body of the person receiving Reiki. These positions are located in similar positions as the meridian points on the body in Acupuncture. They include your head, neck, upper chest, stomach, hips, legs, back and lower back.
The hands do not even need to be placed directly on the body. If you have an area of the body that is in a great deal of pain, or have a condition that makes you very sensitive to touch, we can always work by placing the hands directly above the body.
What Does Reiki Feel Like?
Every person is different, therefore there is no singular experience for a Reiki session. We all have different imbalances in our mind and body, and in your session, Reiki will address the imbalances that are particular to you. Therefore, everyone's experience of Reiki varies. That being said, there are some sensations that are commonly reported.
Many people feel a feeling of warmth and heat coming from the practitioners hands. Light tingling, warmth, itching, and even cold are all sensations that have been reported back to me by clients. These are all normal experiences and are not unpleasant.
Emotionally, my clients tell me they feel a great sense of inner calm and peace during the Reiki session. Some clients have told me they feel like they are in an hour long meditation. Many feel relief and joy filling the part of their body over which my hands are placed.
You do not even have to feel anything at all in order for the Reiki to work. Reiki will work as long as you are open to receiving it. Like I previously mentioned, every person is different, so each person will have a different experience in their session.
Your own sessions will also vary. In one session you can feel incredible and calm, and in another you can feel nothing and even fall asleep! It's important not to compare sessions or think that the Reiki is "not working" if you don't feel anything. As long as you are open to it, it is working.
